Classes I offer two different teaching formats and two different classes. Occasionally I teach larger groups of 8 - 12 students in a larger studio as a guest instructor. I also teach small classes in my own studio in Olympia. These small classes are limited to two students. They are considerably more expensive than a larger class. However I believe with the extra attention my small classes give you that the extra expense is well worth it. I offer both a beginner and an advanced class. Expect only a few classes a year. I teach most classes out of my studio in Olympia Washington.
Classes offered; Beginner course: $350 per day 2 - 3 days learning the basics. Safety, use of tools, pulling stringers and simple cane, simple dot beads, use of stringers, working with colors, annealing, and more. If you can stay for the third day we will cover specific design techniques as well as more information about working with colors. Advanced course: $400 per day, 2 days focused on technique. We spend a lot of time working on dots. Roughly half of the class deals with dots. I encourage patience and accuracy in all aspects of your work. I will teach you my methods for accurate dot placement. Learn the way I work. This class starts out very simply and gradually progresses in difficulty. We cover heat control, specifically how it effects dot work. The methods you will learn in this class can be used on the simplest to the most complex beads. I teach my method for thin encasing layers. I also demonstrate several of my own designs (if there is such a thing as "my own" design). If you would like to take this class I expect you to be respectably proficient with basic bead making techniques. With the exception of safety glasses all class materials will be provided. And another note, in case it interests you, my wife runs a day spa on the same property as my my studio. Nothing would end a day of learning in a more relaxing manner than a spa treatment from Aspasia Day Spa. Brynn (my wife) said she would do a special complimentary15 minute lampworkers hand treatment along with any of the full spa treatments. Classes must be paid in full two weeks before class.
Please send an email if you are interested.
Suggested Accommodations: If you live out of state you will most likely be flying into Seattle which is just over an hours drive from Olympia assuming there are no traffic hangups. Once you are in Olympia we suggest you consider staying in our favorite B&B........
Swantown Inn...This is a beautiful Victorian bed and breakfast. It costs a bit more than your standard motel but it is very close and if you stay there we will provide a ride from the inn to my studio and back( not to the airport, sorry) check them out at www.swantowninn.com
